It has come to my attention that the Laser Spine Institute closed for bankruptcy on March 1, 2019. It’s not surprising. They opened in 2005, had multiple centers. The business model was do as much surgery for cash as possible. There was really no evidence of outcomes. I personally happened to know of doctors in the St. Petersburg and Tampa area who constantly told me that the emergency rooms were constantly filled with bad results from the Laser Spine Institute.
The reason they filed for bankruptcy, we don’t know yet. This only further underscores that when minimally invasive spine surgery is done carelessly to make money for reimbursement, is not the model we need to promote. There must be a doctor patient relationship that I have stated many times in videos and articles on my website. We will probably find out more as we go forward, we don’t know what the litigation issues are but again it only underscores that this type of business model for the practice of medicine really does not cut it.
In the end, as I always say it’s about outcomes, not incomes.
